Laura Dukes added another recognition to her successful 2014 season, garnering First-Team All-Conference USA as announced by the conference office today.

The junior catcher started all 55 games for Middle Tennessee, while she led the team in batting average (.362), hits (55), doubles (17), RBI (33), slugging percentage (.592), walks (34) and on-base percentage (.505). Dukes also set new Middle Tennessee single-season records in walks and on-base percentage.

The New Market, Tennessee native also led MT in C-USA action, totaling a .431 batting average with 10 doubles, 17 RBI and 15 walks. Dukes finished third in C-USA in walks per game, second in doubles per game and third in on-base percentage.

“Laura had a great year for us and led us in almost every offensive category,” said head coach Jeff Breeden. “She is a leader behind the plate and caught all 55 games, not missing a single pitch. There were a couple times this year she could have come out after being injured, but she battled through and that is a testament to her leadership. It is a great honor for her and a great honor for our team to have a first team all-conference selection once again.”

Dukes becomes the latest first-team selection for MT, after Kayla Toney picked up All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 2012. Nina Dever was an All-Sun Belt second team selection last season.
