Lipscomb right-handed pitcher Hunter Brothers was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 30th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft Saturday as the 893rd overall pick.

The Chapel Hill native became the 30th draftee in Lipscomb history and the eighth Bison to be taken in the last eight years. Brothers is in familiar territory as he was also drafted by the Rockies last season in the 24th round.

This season, the Shelbyville Central High School product went 3-2 on the mound with a 4.57 ERA in 15 appearances (13 starts). In 65 innings pitched, he recorded 55 punch outs. Brothers’ best outing this season came in a complete-game shutout victory over East Tennessee State on April 5th. He faced the minimum of 27 batters allowing just two hits and striking out seven. He did not allow a walk.

The redshirt-junior joins former Bisons, Rex Brothers and Bo McLaughin in the Colorado organization. Rex, Hunter’s older brother, is a relief pitcher for the Rockies while McLaughin is the current assistant pitching coach and bullpen coach.

Rex Brothers was the 34th overall selection in the first round of the 2009 Amateur Draft by the Rockies while McLaughin was taken 14th overall by the Houston Astros.
