This week hasn’t been kind to Vanderbilt undrafted free agents who are trying to get a roster spot. Yesterday we reported that Chris Boyd was waived by the Cowboys. But he wasn’t the only Commodore receiver to get the axe. Former Jonathan Krause was let go by Cleveland yesterday. Krause had played well in the preseason but it came down to numbers and he didn’t make the cut.

Walker May was injured for most of camp and was cut by the Falcons. He did play in Atlanta’s first preseason game and registered a tackle but it wasn’t enough for the the Falcons to keep him around. May was waived on Sunday

Carey Spear was thought to have a shot at making the Eagles’ roster but after an unimpressive camp he was let go on Sunday.

Kenny Ladler and Andre Hal are the only lesser known Dores still on NFL rosters. Jordan Matthews, of course is a lock to make the Eagles after being picked in the second round. Ladler signed with the Bills in May after going undrafted. It’s thought that he could actually make the roster. Hal was picked up by Houston in the seventh round and has had a very good camp. In a preseason game against Atlanta two weeks ago Hal picked off TJ Yates in the fourth quarter and ran it back 64 yards for a touchdown.

All NFL clubs must be at a 53 man roster by Saturday afternoon. Each team gets 10 players for the practice squad that don’t count towards the roster. It will be interesting to see if guys like Krause or May get a second look for the practice squad once all rosters are finalized this weekend.

The NFL mandates that all teams must be at 53 players on Saturday afternoon. Each team gets 10 players for their practice squads that don’t count toward that number.
