Derek Mason made his head coaching debut last night in Nashville at home against Temple. Unfortunately for Mason is was a 37-7 drubbing at the hands of the Owls. The Commodores couldn’t get anything going on offense and the defense looked pretty bad too. Seven Commodore turnovers is the key stat in the game.

Mason insists that the sky isn’t falling.

“Listen, this is one football game in a season. I’ve been here before, and what you have to do is, you take it and you learn from it. You try to coach your guys, try to get your mistakes corrected and you’ve got nine days to get yourself ready to go play another football game.”

“This loss to me is no different than an overtime Notre Dame loss. A loss is a loss. I don’t care how you see it — whether it’s 7-6 or 37-7. You never like the way you lose, but the bottom line is that it doesn’t feels any different. It’s our first game and we made way too many mistakes.”

The Dores will play Ole Miss at LP Field next Saturday.
