Cumberland moves to 18 in new poll

Cumberland moved up three spots to No. 18 in this week’s NAIA Football Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Monday. The Bulldogs posted a 41-9 victory over Belhaven University this past weekend.

Cumberland rushed for 331 yards and five touchdowns against Belhaven, including 128 yards and three TDs by Broc Loveless and 117 yards and two scores from Blake DeBoard. The Bulldog defense also forced seven turnovers with five interceptions – two apiece by Grant Jones and Tyler Burr and one from Rickey Dowdy. CU scored 31 points off the seven miscues.

Cumberland joins four other Mid-South Conference teams in the Top 25, including No. 4 Faulkner University, sixth-ranked Georgetown College, No. 17 Lindsey Wilson and 23rd-ranked University of the Cumberlands. The Bulldogs travel to Faulkner on October 18. CU begins a four-game road swing this week at Bluefield College at 12:30 p.m. Central Time on Saturday.
