In two days Vanderbilt has lost two football players who were highly touted recruits. Yesterday Brian Kimbrow was suspended indefinitely and today Coach Mason announced that receiver Jordan Cunningham was taking a leave of absence from the team for person reasons. Cunningham addressed the team this morning.

Cunningham was a 4 star receiver when he graduated high school two years ago. He had offers from Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, and Notre Dame but chose Vanderbilt for the academics and of course James Franklin.

In his freshman year he caught 15 balls for 123 yards but he didn’t see a lot of playing time due to the talent at receiver position with Jonathan Krause and Jordan Matthews. It was thought Cunningham would have an impact this season but so far he has faded into obscurity only catching four passes in the first two games. He didn’t play against UMass and wasn’t even dressed for South Carolina on Saturday.

Hopefully Cunningham can take some time away from football to get things right and come back to help the team finish the season strong.
