When the betting lines were announced for the NFL earlier this week the Titans were a one point underdog to Houston at LP Field. Now that rookie Zach Mettenberger has been named the starter the line has risen to 3 points.

It’s not out of the ordinary for a line to go up or down after it is announced. It just means that a lot of people jumped on the Texans -1 and now the sportsbooks have had to raise the line to get action on the Titans at +3. With a rookie QB now starting a lot of bettors don’t want to put their money on a kid who has never started in the NFL.

With JJ Watt coming to town and Jadeveon Clowney returning this week from injury the Texans defensive front could give Tennessee fits and keep the rookie scrambling and ultimately making bad decisions. When Rusty Smith started as a rookie in 2010, ironically enough against Houston he was pressured all day and threw 3 interceptions in a 20-0 loss.

Houston has been up and down all year. After a 3-1 start the Texans have lost three straight. They had Pittsburgh on the ropes in the second quarter when they were up 13-0 but after two red zone turnovers Houston went into the locker room down 24-13 and never could get back on track.

The Titans are 2-5 but could easily be 4-3. Tennessee blew leads against the Redskins and Browns in the fourth quarter.
