Robinette not listed on depth chart for Charleston Southern

Patton Robinette

Patton Robinette has been on the sidelines since sustaining a concussion against South Carolina. He has been battling injuries all year and this week he is no listed on the depth chart for Charleston Southern. Wade Freebeck is listed as the starer and Phillip Rivers is the backup.

It’s really unfortunate that Robinette is still not healthy. He seems to be the guy that team has confidence in even though he doesn’t really fit what Karl Dorrell wants to do on offense. Robinette led the team to it’s only win in September when Vanderbilt beat UMass at home.

Derek Mason seems really high on Wade Freebeck and his big arm. But as we saw last week they have a short leash on him. If Freebeck can’t move the offense against the Buccaneers during homecoming it’s likely we will see Rivers again. When the offense was sputtering against Georgia Mason pulled Freebeck and put in the transfer from LSU. Rivers sparked the offense and scored on his first possession. The Commodores lost 44-17 but in the second and third quarters the team showed a lot more fight than they have for most of the year.

What is really ironic about the depth chart is that Johnny McCrary is not listed at all. McCrary was a 4 star QB coming out of high school and he seems to really have fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. There were whispers that he was going to be James Franklin’s guy this year had he not gone to Penn State.

Vanderbilt really needs a win this week. If they can’t beat Charleston Southern it’s going to be ugly. The offense has sputtered all year. The defense has gotten better each week but the Buccaneers come to town 5-0 with a really good QB who is averagin6 over 300 yards passing each game.
