Another week of preparation is in the books for Hilltopper Football as it finished up its work for Louisiana Tech Thursday afternoon at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
WKU (3-4, 1-3 C-USA) tangles with Conference USA unbeaten LA Tech (5-3, 4-0 C-USA) Saturday in Ruston, La. in front of a national audience on Fox Sports Network and other regional networks across the country. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (CT) at Joe Aillet Stadium.
Saturday’s matchup features a contrast in strengths as the Hilltopper offense averaging 45.6 points per game faces a Bulldog defense surrendering 16 points per game in Conference USA action. WKU showed its offensive versatility in a 66-51 win over Old Dominion last week, gaining 371 yards through the air and 230 yards on the ground.
Head coach Jeff Brohm told the local media following Thursday’s practice that the Hilltoppers will need to display that kind of balanced attack again to hand the Bulldogs their first league loss.
“It’s important for us to run the ball and try to control the time of possession a little bit, but we don’t want to take away from our game too much” said Brohm. “We like to play at a good pace but we like to have positive plays, get yards in the running game and not put everything on the passing game.”
“We were able to get more balance last week. This week will be more of a challenge. There are a lot of different look we’re going to see, a little more pressure they’re going to put on us. It’s a good test for us.”
