After a disappointing 2-5 start to the season the Titans are going to start Zach Mettenberger for the rest of the season unless he gets injured. Former starting QB Jake Locker will now be the backup going forward.

Mettenberger met with the media today and seems to have the right mindset.

“No matter who that guy is at the quarterback position, it’s his team. I’ve got to step in and take control. I’ve done that this week, being vocal, making sure we’re in the right calls, being on the same page. Absolutely, this is my team now.”

After Jake Locker went down to injury many assumed that it would mean that he wouldn’t be brought back at the end of the season since he is in the last year of his contract. Charlie Whitehurst played well in Locker’s absence but it appear the Titans want to kick the tires on their sixth round draft pick and he will lead the team the rest of the season.

The former LSU star shined in the preseason but he was going against the second and third string. He will be thrown into the fire against JJ Watt and a returning Jadeveon Clowney at home Sunday.

Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt appears to be confident in the rookie’s ability and he believes that he could provide the park the team needs to get going.

“I think over the last couple weeks he has gotten the opportunity to get reps in practice to go with guys that are playing. There is no question he is a talented young player. And maybe it’ll give us a spark. Offensively, we haven’t exactly been lighting it up. So that’s part of it in consideration.”

The Titans host Houston Sunday at LP Field at noon.
