Cumberland senior Grant Jones was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after collecting a career-best 12 tackles and intercepting a pair of passes at Bethel University.

The Chesnee, S.C., native posted his fourth and fifth interceptions of the year, which ranks seventh nationally, returning the second one 43 yards on the first drive of the third quarter. It marked just the second double-digit tackle performance for the senior in 39 career games. Jones made 10 stops on September 15, 2012, against Belhaven University.

He has split time during his career and this season at cornerback and strong safety. For the year he has 54 tackles with five pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and two tackles for loss.

Cumberland finishes the regular season with a pair of home games, taking on Reinhardt University this Saturday and Alderson Broaddus on November 15, with both contests kicking off at Noon at Nokes-Lasater Field.
