Taking on Transylvania for the first time since 1976, the Lipscomb men’s basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Pioneers behind a 74-63 win on Saturday night at Allen Arena in Nashville.

“I liked our defensive effort in the first half,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “Even though the margin was only 10, I thought our numbers were great and we had a lot of good possessions.

“I never felt confident offensively all night long and quite honestly I’m looking for answers. Our shots are going to fall. We have a lot of good shooters and they are going to start hitting eventually. We’re pressing right now in our head a little bit but we have to figure it out quickly.”

Freshman guard Nathan Moran led the Bisons (2-2) with a career-high 16 points off the bench. The newcomer was solid beyond the arch hitting 4-of-7 from deep to go with five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, Josh Williams, finished just behind Moran with a 15-point night on 6-of-10 shooting to go with a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Brett Wishon rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Bisons with a 10-point effort.

“Transylvania played well,” said Alexander. “They played hard and with a lot of confidence. I have to give them a lot of credit. They had a lot to do with why we didn’t play better than we wanted to.”

Ball control proved to be a key to the win for the Purple and Gold as Lipscomb won the turnover battle 18-13 resulting in 23 points for the Bisons.

Lipscomb continues action in the Music City on Monday night against rival Belmont. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. from the Curb Center. The game is set to air on 94.9 Game 2.
