Senior All-American candidate Chastity Gooch had 24 points in the first half as WKU rolled to a 91-68 win over Austin Peay at the Winfield Dunn Center on Tuesday evening.

The game was a matchup of sisters as WKU senior All-American candidate Chastity Gooch and Austin Peay freshman Sydney Gooch faced off in the contest. Gooch got the best of her sister in the contest, finishing with a career high 32 points on 14-of-26 shooting in the contest. She added eight rebounds in the contest. Gooch also surpassed the 1,500 point mark for her career in the game, becoming just the 10th player in program history to reach the mark. Austin Peay freshman Sydney Gooch had two points and four rebounds in 23 minutes.

WKU (9-2) scored 90 points or more for the fourth straight game and have won each of their last four outings by at least 23 points.

After the teams exchanged scores to the tune of a 6-6 tie in the opening 2:19, WKU put together a quick 6-0 to force an Austin Peay timeout and then scored 13 more after that timeout to go up 25-7 in the opening seven minutes of the game. It was Gooch who jumpstarted the Lady Toppers early, scoring eight of WKU’s first 12 and 17 of their first 30 in the game. WKU led 51-31 at halftime as the Lady Toppers shot 60.0 percent in the opening stanza, a 21-of-35 clip. The team made 17-of-24 to open the contest.

Austin Peay (2-8) battled strong in the second half, shooting 53.6 percent in the second half as the Lady Govs’ Tiasha Gray finished with 33 points in 40 minutes. The Lady Govs cut into WKU’s 28 point lead in the second half, coming within 15 in the final seven minutes of play.

With the victory, WKU won its sixth consecutive game and have won 19 of their last 22 games overall, including 16 of 18 during the regular season.

WKU returns home for their final game before the holiday break on Sunday, Dec. 21 to face Ball State. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. CT.
