Lipscomb falls at UTC

Unable to overcome a season-high 24 turnovers, the Lipscomb men’s basketball team dropped a 78-60 decision to Chattanooga on Monday night at McKenzie Arena.

“I have to give Chattanooga a lot of credit,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “They play hard and they speed you up but I will readily take the blame. 15 or 20 of those turnovers were our inability to pass and catch. For a college basketball team, that shouldn’t be a problem.”

The game was close until the middle portion of the second half when the Bisons allowed the Mocs to go on a 14-0 run to turn a 56-51 game into a 19-point deficit for the Purple and Gold.

The Bisons were led in scoring by senior forward Malcolm Smith, who finished the game with 14 points. Sophomore guards Josh Williams and J.C. Hampton each finished in double figures as well with 12 and 10, respectively. Hampton was 4-for-4 from the field including draining a pair of three’s.

“It was great to see J.C. knock down a few and being more of the guy that we are used to seeing,” said Alexander. “Quite honestly, he’s going to help us if he can score but I just want him to play with confidence and be a guy that’s running the show. Tonight he did both which was good to see.”

UTC’s Greg Pryor led all scorers with a 19-point night behind a quartet of 3-pointers.
