No. 25 WKU won its 11th consecutive game and started conference play with three consecutive road wins after posting a 76-60 win over Old Dominion in a renewal of one of the great rivalries in women’s college basketball history.

The Lady Toppers got 48 points from the senior trio of Chastity Gooch (20 points), Alexis Govan (17 points) and Ileana Johnson (11 points, a career high) as the Lady Toppers concluded a four-game road swing with an unblemished record.

WKU (14-2, 3-0) has won 11 straight games, the longest streak for WKU since a 12-game streak during the 2007-08 season. The 11-game streak is the longest of the Michelle Clark-Heard era, besting the 10-game streak that WKU entered the NCAA Tournament on last season. WKU is now 14-2 or better through 16 games for the fifth time in program history and for the first time since 1994-95 when the Lady Toppers were 15-1. WKU’s 3-0 start to league play is the 14th since the start of the 1984-85 season, but just the fifth in the last 17 seasons.

The Lady Toppers have also won their last six games on the road, six road conference games and last 13 games against conference competition.

Old Dominion (8-6, 1-2) never led, but cut a double-digit WKU lead to three on two occasions early in the second half at 35-32 and 39-36. After Old Dominion cut the Lady Topper lead to six at 53-47 in the second half, the Lady Toppers reeled off eight straight points as Tashia Brown and Kendall Noble hit baskets followed by a pair of baskets by Gooch. Gooch’s basket to cap the run came after a steal and run out by Gooch.

The Lady Monarchs never got closer than 10 the rest of the game as WKU reeled off its ninth straight double-digit win.

WKU built an early lead thanks to the three-point shot. WKU hit 7-of-11 three-point shots to open the game, including a 4-of-4 stretch by junior Micah Jones. The Lady Toppers finished the game 8-of-18 from the three-point line and were 42.2 percent from the field for the game.

The Lady Toppers were also aided by their protection of the ball, committing just six turnovers in the game.

Now in a two-game conference weekend routine, the Lady Toppers return home for a pair of games.
