Skyhawks announce 2015 Baseball Schedule

A total of 26 home games and neutral site games at nearby Union City and Jackson highlight the University of Tennessee at Martin’s 2015 baseball schedule, which was released today by head coach Rick Robinson.

The Skyhawks return 19 players from last season and welcome in 14 newcomers this season, which will be the first for Robinson at UT Martin. The coach enters his 18th year as a collegiate coach in 2015 and boasts a 699-281 career record after successful stints at Young Harris College (1999-2014) and Brevard College (1992).

“We are excited about the challenges of this year’s schedule,” Robinson said. “I am positive that our players will compete with enthusiasm and passion every day and to the best of their ability.”

UT Martin begins the season with eight games against first-time opponents. The Skyhawks travel to Mississippi for a tournament on Feb. 13-15, playing two games each against Texas-Pan American and host Jackson State.

The Skyhawks then host Western Michigan for a four-game home set on Feb. 20-22 in the home season-opening series.

UT Martin follows with a road game at defending national champion Vanderbilt on Feb. 24 before returning to Skyhawk Field for a weekend series against IPFW. The Skyhawks are 8-1 all-time against the Mastodons, who compete in the Summit League.

Ohio Valley Conference season begins on March 6-8 when UT Martin makes the short trek to Murray State. The Skyhawks then travel to nearby Jackson for a neutral game against Jackson State on March 10, marking the first time that UT Martin has played in that ballpark since the Skyhawks made the OVC Tournament in 2011. It will be the first nonconference game that UT Martin has played in that stadium – which is home to the Jackson Generals, the Seattle Mariners’ Double-A affiliate – since it took on Memphis on April 22, 2009.

The Skyhawks host Tennessee Tech and Southern Illinois before visiting the Show Me State for four games (at Saint Louis, three games at OVC rival Southeast Missouri).

A five-game homestand follows for UT Martin, who hosts Christian Brothers, OVC foe Belmont and Evansville to close out the month of March. A road series at OVC rival Eastern Kentucky opens the month of April, followed by a return road game at Evansville on April 7.

UT Martin plays host to regional rival Bethel on April 8 and conference foe Morehead State before embarking on an eight-game road swing. The Skyhawks play at Southeastern Conference power Ole Miss (April 15), perennial Missouri Valley Conference contenders Missouri State (April 17-19) and Southern Illinois (April 22) before a three-game road series at OVC rival SIU Edwardsville.

A nonconference game against Murray State follows on April 28. The game will be played at Elam Stadium in nearby Union City as a neutral site game for both teams.

The Skyhawks open May with a home series against in-state OVC opponent Austin Peay before three road games at conference rival Eastern Illinois. UT Martin travels to Memphis on May 12 before concluding the regular season with a three-game home set against Jacksonville State on May 14-16.

The OVC Tournament will once again be played at the Ballpark at Jackson, marking the sixth consecutive season that the league’s tournament champion will be crowned at that venue. The tournament – located less than 60 miles away from the UT Martin campus – will take place on May 20-24.
