Posted on 04 February 2015 by Allen

For the second time in three weeks, WKU travels west to the Lone Star State for a pair of games in Texas, starting with a showdown with North Texas on Thursday night in the Super Pit in Denton.

Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT on Thursday evening in Denton. Fans can subscribe to the C-USA Digital Network through Conference USA’s website, which provides access to live and on-demand video content from every Conference USA school, including WKU, to watch the game live. Audio will be live streamed on with Barry Williams (play-by-play) on the call. The game can also be heard live on ESPN 102.7 FM and 1450 AM in the Bowling Green area and worldwide via the TuneIn app for select game.

WKU is now 18-4 through 22 games, marking the sixth time in program history that WKU has won at least 18 games through 22 games. The Lady Toppers are just two wins shy of recording its third consecutive 20 win season on the heels of a 9-21 campaign prior to Michelle Clark-Heard’s arrival on the Hill as head coach.

If WKU can claim two wins this week in Texas and reach the 20-win mark, it would be the second fastest WKU has reached the 20-win mark in terms of date in program history. The quickest came during the 1985-86 Final Four season in which the Lady Toppers won their 20th game on Feb. 4. The next quickest is the 1990-91 season when WKU won their 20th game on Feb. 11 followed by the 1984-85 Final Four season on Feb. 14.

This weekend’s games mark the final trip to the Lone Star State for Texas native Alexis Govan. The senior All-American candidate chose to travel approximately 1,000 miles from her native San Antonio, Texas to attend WKU. This weekend’s trip will mark her seventh trip to Texas during her WKU career.

One of Govan’s greatest moments in her WKU career didn’t happen in the state of Texas, but against a team from the state of Texas, Thursday’s opponent North Texas. Govan registered her career high of 40 points on Dec. 29, 2012 against North Texas in E.A. Diddle Arena. She converted on 16-of-20 shots in the game as WKU beat the Mean Green 82-80. The 40-point performance is one of four in WKU history and was the first since Crystal Kelly’s school record 42-point performance against ULM on Feb. 23, 2008. Govan scored 57 points in 58 minutes against North Texas in two games during the 2012-13 season.

WKU is 7-2 on the season in Conference USA play, having already played five games away from home in league play. Following this weekend’s road trip, WKU plays five of its final seven league games at home.

Following the two-game swing to Texas, the Lady Toppers return home for a three-game home stand.
