Looking to add some depth behind the plate and on the mound, Lipscomb baseball head coach Jeff Forehand has announced the signing of Murfreesboro native Justin Wilson for the 2016 season.

“Justin is an outstanding addition to what is already a top recruiting class,” Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand said. “He is a fine young man on top of being an outstanding player.

“For him making a change in heart, a change in schools and for us to get involved with him late in the process, I think we got a really, really good player.”

After receiving intrest from other schools like Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Austin Peay and Middle Tennessee, Wilson decided that under the direction of Forehand, Lipscomb was the right fit for him.

“I’ve been really impressed with coach Forehand and their baseball program,” Wilson said.

Perfect Game recognized Wilson for his play in each of his last two seasons at Oakland High School where he is rated the 49th-best overall prospect and the sixth-best catcher in the state of Tennessee.

In 2014 he was named an Underclass All-American Honorable Mention before earning a spot on the Southeast Region All-American Honorable Mention team in 2015.

As a junior at OHS, Wilson earned all-district honors after hitting .385 at the plate with two home runs.

In 2013 he led the Patriots to the Region 4-AAA semifinals raking at a .273 clip with a double and four triples.

“Justin has the skills behind to plate that will help us for a long time to come,” Forehand said. “He is also becoming a better offensive player all the time and we are really fortunate that he decided to come be a part of our program.

“We are expecting all freshmen to be ready to come in and compete early.”

Wilson could find himself catching a former rival next season, current freshman Brady Puckett who was a pitcher at Riverdale.

“I grew up playing with Brady,” Wilson said, who caught him in middle school. “It’s good to go somewhere that I can play with people I know. We’re pretty good friends.”
