After his dominant TKO win over Patrick Cummins Saturday, Ovince St. Preux asked to be placed on the Nashville UFC fight card coming up on August 8th. The former UT linebacker has now won seven out of his last eight and his last two by knockout in the first round earning him the #7 ranking in the UFC light heavyweight division.
It’s not known for sure if Joe Silva is going to put OSP on the Nashville card but the UFC would be foolish not too. Nashville needs a good showing to bring in revenue for the fledgeling Athletic Commission. St. Preux would bring in a lot of fans from East Tennessee as well as all over the state. Ovince last fought in Music City in Jan. 2011 when he defeated Abongo Humphrey at Strikeforce Challengers: Woodley vs. Saffiedine. He earned a Strikeforce contract by knocking out Chris Hawk on the undercard of Strikeforce: Nashville the year before.
If OSP is put on the card there are a few people that he could face. The most obvious guy is Jimi Manuwa. The #8 ranked 205er is coming off a win at UFC Fight Night 64 two weeks ago and could be in line to face the guy ranked just ahead of him. Depending on how upcoming fights shake out we could see St. Preux face a top five contender. In June Ryan Bader takes on Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson faces Glover Teixeira. The winner of one of those fights could be in line to face the former Vol. Former champ Rashad Evans could also be a possibility but he has been injured and has said he wants to return in the Fall.
We won’t know anything for a few weeks but it’s almost a given fans in Nashville will see St. Preux on August 8th at the Bridgestone Arena.
