MMA: UFC 159-Villante vs St. Preux

Ovince St. Preux is getting his wish. The former Vol linebaker will be headlining UFC Fight Night 74 in Nashville on Aug 8th against former #1 contender Glover Teixeira. St. Preux asked for a fight in Music City after defeating Patrick Cummins in the first round last month.

The East Tennessee standout is ranked #6 in the light heavyweight division and his opponent, Teixera is #5. A solid win by OSP could vault him into the #1 contender’s spot, or at worst put him in an eliminator fight later this year. Daniel Cormier won the vacant title last weekend and looks to be facing Ryan Bader next. With Rashad Evans still on the sidelines nursing an injury it’s possible St. Preux could face Cormier if he defeats Bader. Bader already holds a win over St. Preux so he really needs to Cormier to win to make the fight more marketable.

Teixera has lost two straight and cannot afford another loss if he wants to stay in the top ten of the division. He lost the former champ Jon Jones last summer then lost a decision to Phil Davis last October. Before dropping his last two the Brazilan had won his previous 19 fights including wins over Rampage Jackson and Ryan Bader.

Matt Van Buren vs. Jonathan Wilson is also set for the undercard. Van Buren was the TUF 19 runner-up but has dropped two in a row in the octagon. Needless to say, it’s do or die for him. Wilson is 6-0 but has never fought for the UFC and will make his debut in Nashville.

Another fighter rumored for the card are Scott Holtzman. Holtzman signed with the UFC late last year but has yet to make his debut. We were told by a source close to his camp that it’s likely he will debut in August in Nashville. RFA champ Luke Sanders has talked openly about fighting on the show as well but it’s not known if he has signed with the UFC just yet.

More fights will be announced in the coming weeks and as always the card is subject to change.
