After a late season surge that sent the Commodores into the NIT Athlon has Vanderbilt ranked in their early preseason basketball poll. Kevin Stallings’ squad is ranked #22.
With Damian Jones returning to West End many expect Vanderbilt to do well next season. Jones was projected to be a first NBA Draft pick but opted to come back for this senior year. And with a good young supporting cast in Luke Kornet, Matthew Fisher-Davis, Riley LaChance and Wade Baldwin around him this could be a big year for the Dores.
Vanderbilt did lose James Siakim to graduataion and Sheldon Mitchell who decided to transfer out. Stallings is bringing in a nationally ranked recruiting class consisting of Samir Sehic, Djery Baptiste, Joseph Toye, and Camron Justice. If the freshman can find a way to contribute the Dores could live up to the hype.
