Former Hillsboro star Bowers transfers to CU

Cumberland women’s basketball coach Jeremy Lewis announced the signing of Nashville native and Eastern Kentucky University transfer Nicole Bowers to scholarship papers this week for the 2015-16 season.

The Hillsboro High School product played two seasons at EKU, averaging 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 12.5 minutes per game this past year. She posted 3.4 points and 3.0 boards in 28 contests as a freshman.

Bowers averaged 12.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game as a senior at Hillsboro, earning All-Midstate accolades from the Tennessean as well as First Team All-District 11-AAA and All-Metro honors while leading the Burros to a 28-6 record. She registered 17 points and 14 boards per contest as a junior, garnering First Team All-District and All-Region honors as well.

Bowers was rated a three-star prospect and the No. 28 center in the country by ESPN Hoopgurlz as a junior and also was rated the No. 1 center in Tennessee and a Top 15 player in the state by coming out of high school.

She has two years of eligibility remaining for the Bulldogs.
