Four former Bulldogs playing in independent league

Four former Cumberland baseball players began their professional seasons in independent leagues over the past month, including Sam Lind, Anthony Gomez, Cory Urquhart and Brady North.

Lind and Gomez are both members of the Schaumburg [IL] Boomers in the Frontier League, with Lind batting .290 in eight games with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored. Gomez is just 1-3 in four starts covering 20.1 innings of work, allowing 37 hits and 24 runs with 10 strikeouts.

Urquhart is currently playing for the Evansville [IN] Otters, also in the Frontier League, batting .294 with 23 contests with three doubles, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored along with 11 walks. Evansville is leading the East Division with a 17-6 mark.

North also plays in the Frontier League with the Washington [PA] Wild Things and has one hit in eight games.

These four join a group of five former Cumberland players who are currently playing with Major League Baseball-affiliated clubs: Luis Martinez, Will Locante, Aaron Wilkerson, Chipper Smith and Josciel Veras.
