Dustin Ortiz has been added to the UFC Fight Night 73 card that takes place in Nashville on August 8th at the Bridgestone Arena. Ortiz will face perennial flyweight contender Ian McCall live on Fox Sports 1. McCall have fought before. Ortiz lost their first bout in 2011 by unanimous decision. This time Ortiz will have homefield advantage having grown up in Franklin, just outside Nashville.
Ortiz (14-4) cut his teeth at Nashville MMA before moving onto RoufusSport in Milwaukee to train with guys like Anthony Pettis and Ben Askren. The middle Tennessee native has gone 6-0 fighting Nashville having competed at the Fairgrounds on regional shows and on two Strikeforce events at the Bridgestone and Municipal Auditorium.
In his last outing Ortiz dropped a unanimous decision to former #1 contender Joseph Benavidez last November. Before the loss he had won two straight. Currently Ortiz is ranked #11 in the UFC flyweight rankings.
McCall (13-5-1) also lost in his last outing, but like Ortiz he had won his previous two. “Uncle Creepy” is currently ranked #4 and could put himself in title contention with a win in Nashville.
UFC Fight Night 73 is headlined by OVince St. Preux vs former #1 light heavyweight contender Glover Texeira. Michael Johnson will face Beneil Dariush in the co-main event. East Tennessee standout Scott Holtzman will make his UFC debut against Anthony Christodoulou.
