Titans Picks: Week 5 vs Browns

Titans Picks is 3-1 on the year.

The Titans are in need of a win, and the Browns can provide one. This week, Whisenhunt is going to shake things up with the run game, which will make a big difference.

Cleveland, on the other hand, has been playing tough games, losing by a small margin. They’re better than their record suggests. Having said that, the Titans are too, and can use a well played home game to lift their spirits.
If the Titans can cut down on penalties, pull out some more key run plays, and get a few sacks in the 4th quarter, the Titans will make it happen.

2015 NFL Draft headed to Chicago

Posted on 02 October 2014 by Allen

nfl

The NFL Draft will have a new home in 2015. The annual event has usually been held in New York but will be take place at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in Chicago. The Draft will be start on April 30 and run through May 2, which is two weeks earlier than last year.

The Windy City held the Draft sporadically during the 30′s through the 60′s and it will get it one more time next year. Los Angeles was also rumored to be in the mix. The NFL Draft usually takes place at Radio City Music Hall but a scheduling conflict resulted in the change for 2015.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been a proponent of moving the draft to different cities. It was rumored that the team with the first pick would get to hold the event in coming years but nothing has been announced.

Nashville would be a great location for the draft if the NFL ever decided to come here. The Ryman Auditorium or Grand Ole Opryhouse would be perfect if they ever brought to the Music City. Both venues have a lot of hotels around them and could likely accommodate the media and fans that would come to the event. Who knows 2016 could be the year the Titans get the first pick and they come to Tennessee.

Titans Picks is 2-1 on the year.

Titans fans, it only gets worse from here. The offense was inept even with a healthy Locker. Their 3rd down conversion rate is pathetic, not to mention offensive output. They now go on the road against a Colts team that is better than their record suggests. Luck and crew are similar to Cincinnati. They can crank out some points, especially at home.

As in the Cowboys game, the turnovers will be key – just 1 interception by the Titans QB can statistically spell doom. The defense simply cannot stop points off turnovers. While their pass defense has hit some high notes, their rushing yards allowed per game is below average. Their only hope is pressuring Luck and getting several sacks – Titans fans can dream, can’t they?

Titans add QB Sorensen

Titans add QB Sorensen

Titans

With Jake Locker suffering from a sprained wrist and Zach Mettenberger missing time for a death in the family Tennessee made a roster move to add another QB.

The Titans added QB Brad Sorensen to their practice squad and released CB Ri’Shard Anderson from the practice squad.

Sorensen (6-5, 230) was a seventh-round draft choice by the San Diego Chargers in the 2013 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he served as the third quarterback for the entire season. He was waived by the Chargers at the final preseason roster cut-down (Aug. 30, 2014) this year.

Sorensen was a three-year starter at Southern Utah, where he earned Great West Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors as a junior. For his career at Southern Utah, he threw for 9,445 yards and 61 touchdowns.

The Titans will be a 7.5 point underdog when they head to Indy this weekend. The line started at 7 but has quickly gone up to 7.5. Some offshore sportsbooks have the Colts -9. And if Jake Locker is ruled out with his wrist injury we could see it going up even more.

After getting blown out in Cincinnati and road trip to Indianapolis isn’t exactly what the doctor ordered. The Titans had 26 more yards than the Bengals but 11 penalties for 99 yards killed any chance of them hanging around.

Indianapolis throttled Jacksonville 44-17 after an 0-2 start with close losses to Denver and Philadelphia. With a win the Colts can get to 2-2 and will be back in the driver’s seat of the division with Baltimore coming in the following week.

Last year Tennessee lost 22-14 on the road to the Colts.

Andy Dalton catches TD pass against Titans

Andy Dalton catches TD pass against Titans

Posted on 21 September 2014 by Allen

Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is used to throwing touchdown passes but today he was on the receiving end against the Titans in Cincinnati. Bengals receiver Mohamed Sanu lined up under center with Dalton at wideout in what looked to be like a wildcat formation. Sanu and the line rolled to the right but then threw back left to Dalton burning Blidi Wreh-Wilson in the process for the touchdown. With the score Cincinnati went up 10-0 and held on to win 33-7.

The Titans are now 1-2 and will travel to Indianapolis next week.

So clearly the Titans were outmatched last week. Their run defense was terrible and turned the ball over numerous times. From Cincinnati this week I’m forecasting heavy run along with an explosive passing attack, especially since A.J. Green is back.

Basically, the Bengals are one of the hottest teams in the NFL right now with a high octane offense and stifling defense. The Titans aren’t coming off a loss against one of the worst teams in the NFL, going on the road against one of the best teams, and pulling out a win.

Sorry Titans fans.

Former Titan Bironas Dies in Car Crash

Posted on 21 September 2014 by Allen

Titans

Former Titans kicker Rob Bironas has passed away. He was killed in a single car crash in Nashville close to his home. Alcohol was not involved according to the police. The cause of the accident was likely speeding. Bironas lost control of his Yukon when rounding a curve on Battery Lane. He was transported to Vanderbilt where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Bironas’ family posted the news on his Twitter account early this morning.

In 2005 the Titans signed Bironas a free agent and would in time become the teams all time leading scorer. In March he was released but he stayed in Nashville and was active in the community.

The team released a statement this morning.

“We are deeply saddened to hear the tragic news from last night about Rob Bironas. Rob made a significant impact as a player in his nine years with the team and more importantly touched many lives in the Nashville community off the field. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Rachel, and his family during this very difficult time.”

The Titans back in Nashville for their first home game this season. After a great showing against K.C. Last week, I don’t see a letdown. Going against a terrible Dallas defense, Tennessee should be able to pull out the win, especially if Romo keeps throwing the way he did last week under pressure. Ultimately, it seems the game will come down to turnovers.

The Titans will give them a heavy dose of run served with some decent passes by a Jake Locker continuing to show improvement under Whisenhunt’s system. Dallas doesn’t want to fall to 0-2, and the game should be close, but they don’t have enough to avoid it. This game will set up a match between the Bengals and Titans next week who will both be 2-0. You heard it here first.

Titans win in Kansas City

Titans win in Kansas City

Titans

The Titans kicked off the 2014 campaign Sunday with a successful trip to Kansas City. Jake Locker passed for a pair of touchdowns, and Ryan Succop was perfect on four field goal attempts in the 26-10 win. The team celebrated its 400th all-time victory in the regular season.

Locker was 22-of-33 passing for 266 yards with touchdown tosses to tight end Delanie Walker and wide receiver Kendall Wright. The fourth-year signal caller finished the game with a passer rating of 111.4, the third-highest rating in his 19 career starts.

Locker and the Titans offense did not commit a turnover, while the defense forced three interceptions, including two by cornerback Jason McCourty. The defense also notched four sacks and limited the Chiefs to one third-down conversion on 12 attempts.

It was the first game for the Titans under the leadership of Ken Whisenhunt, who was named the 17th head coach in franchise history and the third in the “Titans era” on Jan. 13. Whisenhunt, who spent seven seasons as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals (2007–2012), improved his record as a head coach to 5-2 on Kickoff Weekend.

Against the Cowboys, the Titans will attempt to go 2-0 to start the season for the first time since 2008. The team is 9-6 in regular-season home openers at LP Field, which was christened in 1999.

Titans Picks: Week 1 Chiefs

The Titans are coming out swinging. Coming off a mediocre season, now with a great coach, the Titans will have the motivation to win their opener vs Kansas City at Arrowhead. Locker is healthy, and they have an excellent rookie running back in Bishop Sankey, which will help them put up some points. The Titans offense, with the guidance of Whisenhunt, will get the ball rolling.

Last year the Chiefs were 11-5, but are due for a letdown this season. The Chiefs lost some players on offense, and their offensive line is suspect. Jamaal Charles may see a 100 yard game, but without wideout threats, the Chiefs fall flat.

Titans elect 5 captains

Titans elect 5 captains

titans-logo-300x300

The Titans have elected five captains for the 2014 season. Jake Locker and Nate Washington will serve as the offensive captains, Wesley Woodyard and Jurrell Casey represent the defense, and George Wilson will serve as the special teams captain.

Last year Jake Locker, Nate Washington, Michael Roos, Patrick Bailey Bernard Pollard, and Jason McCourty were elected captains by the team. Washington and Locker are the only two who will serve again.

It will be interesting to see if Locker can stay healthy this year. He has had a track record of going down early and often. Locker is in a contract year and there is a lot riding on his performance this year. Jurrell Casey picked up a new contract last week so Tennessee isn’t scared to pay the money if you can play.

The Titans will kick off their season Sunday at Kansas City.
